What is primary medical care?
Primary medical care is provided by a family physician. Your family doctor is your primary health care provider responsible for assessing your health, diagnosing illness, and prescribing treatment. They are your first point of contact to discuss your medical and mental health care concerns. Family doctors discuss your symptoms to determine the right course of action. In some cases, this includes referral to specialists to help provide proper treatment based on your conditions. They also offer preventative care, with annual “physicals” to address concerns and arrange for tests appropriate for your age or risk factors.
What if I need same-day care?
If you have a more urgent issue and your family doctor is unable to see you the same day, primary care is also provided at same-day walk-in clinics. However, we make every effort to ensure your doctor sees you in a timely manner and provide urgent appointments when necessary. However, in the case of an emergency please call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency department.
What is comprehensive health care?
Comprehensive health care ensures you as the patient or guardian understand the health condition and recommended steps to treat or further investigate the suspected condition. It is key to the prevention of the progression of disease and illness, as well as the management of current conditions and illness. However, it also takes a whole-body approach to health care. It considers all aspects of health both mental and physical and digs deeper to find causes of illness to provide a more effective treatment plan.
